Try #3 blind hem stitch

Eureka.

It was part configuration and part how to handle the fabric.

I stripped 10-12 swatches to make practice.  

By the 5th or 6th one, I figured it out.

(Note: this is not a standard per sé, but it worked for me):

As the fabric is feeding through, brace the finger against the presser foot to stabilize.

Voila

It caught the edge perfectly.
